Phantom Blog Hop and "Think Of Me"

Some time back I thought I'd like to host a blog hop.  Several ladies urged me to give it a shot and I thought, I could probably do this.  Then I listened to the music from Phantom of the Opera again and, shortly thereafter, a Blog Hop was born.  And I found out that Lori Anderson from Pretty Things just makes it look easy.  It's not.  There are things I have now learned the hard way.
Well.
Moving on.

I chose the Phantom Of The Opera because my dad took me to see it for my 24th birthday (no, I will not be telling you how long ago that was!) and my mom and I fell in love with Davis Gaines, the actor playing the Phantom at that time.  My rules for the hop were simple: choose a song from the play/opera and create a piece of jewelry representing it, tell us why and no using JUST the rose or mask.  I'll be the first to admit, I almost got my butt kicked by my own blog hop! I had a great idea, it just didn't want to pan out.  So, I tried something else.  LUCKILY! this time it worked.  I chose the 1st song Christine sings, "Think Of Me."  For some reason, the sweetness of that song, and the fact that it's where we first meet Raul, just sticks with me. I also loved the colors in her costume and wanted to use those as I created my idea of an asymmetrical necklace.

Honestly, I love just about all the songs in this play/opera, so my real challenge was choosing just one song.  I actually have plans to try creating pieces for other songs at a later time.  Until then, here's my piece, "Think of Me":

Think Of Me

I used green German glass, pink
cat's-eye heart and red glass...

...gold glass tubes, pink
painted glass, and more
green German glass beads

The focal bead is Italian glass I found
on Etsy at Debbie's store, Bead
Hoarder's Stash
You'll also notice one of the dangles
is a red flower... closest I came to
the red rose from the play

And a pair of earrings to round it all out. I can
make earrings without a necklace but I can't
seem to make a necklace without earrings! :)

And there you have it.  Please, hop on over and see what the other ladies have made for the Phantom Hop.

Pet.... Poodle?

Okay, I have found my newest obsession! I was reading MSN the other night and they had a story about a new critter found down in South America called the Venezuelan (get this!) Poodle Moth!  I think it's adorable and I want one for my very own!  Please!  I would love it and pet it and call it George!

Seriously! How can you NOT love and be inspired by this little guy!  It looks like he has a fur coat! I'm in awe!  I wish I were better with my Poly-Clay because I would be trying to make a little look-alike focal from this! Can't you just imagine? Being able to make jewelry look like these li'l fellas (or some of the cuter bugs out there?)

Have you found any (creepy) cute and/or unusual bugs you'd be inspired by? Share. Especially if you have a FB page. Feel free to post your FB page link in the comments if you have a pic to share of a creepy/cute bug that you find inspiring in some way.

p.s., you can read the article here: http://cosmiclog.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/27/13510167-bizarre-poodle-moth-fascinates-and-frightens-the-masses-online?lite

Phantom Quick Check - Testing, Testing; 1, 2, 3... (is this thing on?)

Okay, okay. (blog/avatar name... remember?)

So, quick "sound check" for the names/blogs I have of those participating who contacted me.  Please double check that I have:
a) your correct blog or site (i.e., the one you're planning to use for the reveal)
b) your name (spelling, etc.... I'm not perfect, just ask Saner Sister!)

If I've missed you (I tried to save everyone who emailed me.... did I mention the "not perfect" thing?) pleasepleasepleeeeeeease contact me ASAP so I can correct this list and add you.  If I have something wrong (i.e., your name, spelling, link) contact me ASAP so I correct this list.  As soon as I've received and made any correction, I will email this list to all of you (provided you have already provided me with an email addy) for you to publish on your blogs for the reveal.  Or, should I say, "The Reveal!"

SO looking forward to Friday and seeing what all of you created!

Just Few Things... and Another Blog Hop!

First... I need to correct a couple of impressions.... that beautiful girl modeling my Summer Rose necklace in the BSBP reveal isn't me.  It's a (very) young lady in my church who, along with her two older sisters, agreed to model some of my jewelry for me (post is here). I am nowhere NEAR this cute! (and I'm 44... bleh!)

Second, I'm going to be posting the list for this Friday's Phantom Blog Hop a little later today (I'm taking a really quick break at work to let y'all know this).  I'm trying to email this same list to all participants, but some of you haven't given me your email and your blog page doesn't have a "contact me" button... 0_o *  If this is you, please get your email to me ASAP so I can get the list to you, too.

Third, I have not even come near getting through all of the BSBP links from this last reveal. I'm sorry. I'm trying but it's just not possible for me to sit that still, that long, and not go insane. Not ADD or anything, just... Oh, look, squirrel!
Wait.
What was I saying?

Anyway, I will get through them and I am attempting to leave a comment for everyone.

Have a great day, ladies!

Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal! Woo Hoo!

Yay! It's time for the 3rd Bead Soup Blog Party reveal!! I don't mind admitting I was some nervous.  As a reminder, here's what my partner sent me:
Remember this lovely, huge rose?
I was SO nervous about using this rose.  It was less the yellow (even tho' I don't use much yellow, normally) as much as how could I do this rose justice?

Summer Rose
I chose to add holes so I could dangle a gorgeous dragonfly a dear friend had given me below the rose.  It just seemed to be what was called for.  Then, I had these glass beads that look like millefiore beads and I felt they echoed the rose. Then I used the long blue beads to tie it all together with earth and sky since I felt the lovely magnet clasp echoed the stars at night.

View of it hanging long

One of my models to show it off

Summer Time Blues
Buttercup Drops

Double Flower

Summer Time Yellows

Summer Breeze
Yes, I went a little crazy making earrings but my partner sent me so many lovely beads I just went nuts on the earrings. (and Summer!)
Hide-A-Key Lanyard
as a necklace
As I said, there were so many beads from my partner I decided to use some in another challenge.  Using the cone above the dangle in a unique way. (read about it here)

Hide-A-Key Lanyard as a
name badge

Summer Fire Earrings
(used the little flower beads my
partner sent as accents)

Summer Rose earrings that go with
the Summer Rose necklace.

So! There's all the things I had fun making from my partner's lovely Soup Mix!  Please go have a peek at what others in this 3rd, and final, Reveal did with their mixes.
